Lab Operations & Facilities Technician (Boston Office)

Indigo is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Lab Operations & Facilities Technician to support daily operations. Reporting to the Manager, Lab Operations & Facilities, this role is responsible for managing lab supplies and inventories, maintaining critical equipment and environmental systems, coordinating waste disposal and deliveries, and ensuring a safe and efficient workspace for research staff. The ideal candidate brings hands-on lab experience, strong organizational skills, and a customer-service mindset, with the ability to independently manage priorities while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

This is an in-person role based out of Boston office.

What You'll Do:

  • Manage consumables inventory by ordering and restocking supplies

  • Monitor environmental management equipment (RODI system, lab wastewater pH neutralization, high pressure boiler, compressed air), update daily logs, and perform routine maintenance tasks

  • Welcome on-site service technicians during repairs/ PMs and offer assistance as needed

  • Oversee biohazard waste pick-ups and liquid nitrogen/ dry ice deliveries

  • Update chemical inventory system and SDS system

  • Manage lab coat inventory and deliveries

  • Assist with making plates for the facility and maintaining plate-making equipment

  • Assist Lab Operations & Facilities Manager in responding to lab equipment and HVAC monitoring sensor alarms

  • Ensure that all package deliveries are taken inside of the facility, that the receivers are notified of their arrival, and that the contents are stored properly

  • Provide great customer service to research staff and fulfill requests

  • Support the Lab Operations & Facilities Manager and provide input on lab optimization projects

  • Set a good example for proper lab safety practices

What You'll Bring:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or biotechnology field

  • 1-2 years of experience with laboratory techniques 

  • Interest in fermentation, microbiology, and bioprocessing

  • Experience operating autoclaves, laboratory glasswashers, and media preparation equipment

  • A motivation to learn, with strong attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Understanding of sterile technique

  • Mechanical aptitude and experience servicing and maintaining lab equipment

  • A motivation to learn, with strong attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Strong multitasking and prioritization skills

  • Creative thinking skills for identifying and optimizing workflows

  • Self-sufficiency and the ability to work independently while operating within supervisor expectations and parameters

How We'll Take Care of You

  • Base salary of $40,000-$50,000 annually

  • Equity options & annual cash incentives

Pay Transparency Statement

Indigo is committed to competitive and equitable pay for all employees. The listed pay range for this role is a good faith estimate of the hiring range for this position. Compensation offered will be determined based on several factors including an individual’s experience, qualifications, and geographic location.

Benefits Statement

All regular, full-time, permanent employees who work 30 hours or more each week are eligible to enroll in Indigo’s benefits. Additionally, all full-time employees and some parttime employees are eligible for paid time off as outlined above. Based on their role, employees may also be eligible to receive long-term equity incentives and annual cash incentives.
